Police officials have detained a young constable who allegedly seized cocaine
and money from a woman after participating in an unauthorised drug raid.
The constable was allegedly nabbed at a roadblock near Whim, Corentyne, with
eight grammes of cocaine, $17,000 and some jewellery.
He was traveling in a taxi at the time. The driver, who had $15,000 in his
possession, was also detained.
Police officials confirmed the arrests and said that the two men are being
detained at the Whim Police Station.
Kaieteur News was told that the constable, who graduated last Christmas from the
police training college, hired the taxi driver yesterday and informed the man
that he was going on a drug raid.
They then proceeded to a suspected drug block on the Corentyne, where the
policeman apprehended a woman who was leaving the premises.
After a quantity of cocaine was allegedly found on her, the woman and the
constable allegedly struck a deal. She allegedly gave him the cocaine, $40,000
and two imitation gold bangles.
After the men left, the woman contacted the Springlands police and told them she
had been robbed.
The ranks set up a roadblock and apprehended the policeman and his alleged
accomplice with the cocaine, money and the woman’s imitation jewellery.
Charges are likely shortly.
