Two gunmen on Monday night robbed a
Corentyne vendor and his wife of cash and jewellery
before escaping.

According to a police press
release, at about 8.30 pm, Bharrat
Sookhnandan and his wife Meena were at
their Rampoor
Settlement, Corentyne home when
two men, both of whom were armed with handguns,
confronted and robbed them.

Investigations revealed that Sookhnandan
was alerted that something was amiss by his dogs'
barking. When he went to check on the animals the
bandits accosted and held him at gunpoint. They took
him back into the house where they also held his wife
at gunpoint. The men then grabbed a quantity of
jewellery and $325,000 in cash before escaping.
